Out of absolutely nowhere, Insomniac Games has revealed the release date for the hotly anticipated Marvel's Wolverine.
Per the social post shared by the studio, the PS5 exclusive superhero blockbuster launches on 15th September, 2026:
No other follow-up details have been shared at this time. You can wishlist the game on PS Store; pre-orders are yet to be opened.
Marvel's Wolverine is a bloody action adventure starring everyone's favourite mutant, and we've not seen much of it at all thus far. Beyond an exciting trailer from last year, there's not a whole lot to go on.

Presumably, there's a plan in place to show more of the game in the coming months. If we were putting money down, we reckon it'll get its own standalone State of Play — but that's just speculation.
Anyway, there you go — a release date for one of PS5's biggest games of 2026. Are you hyped for Marvel's Wolverine? Tell us in the comments section below.

This should have been in the state of play as the closing game, would have made the show a 10/10 personally.
Also seems a bit earlier than I thought, maybe GTA even has Sony rushing.
Something isn’t right with the way this was announced.
Skipped State of Play only to drop a 5 second trailer of nothing with a date?
A distraction from Bluepoint maybe?
Sony in Operation : Charm Offensive shocker.
😂😂 this was probably supposed to be announced in the next state of play , i knew they'd do something like this to take eyes of bluepoint , so predictable
That's one way to get around the backlash!
My heart stopped when I saw the notification for the release date on my phone. I am now dead. Thanks Insomniac, you better release this game on the same date in heaven. Or hell.
@Jacko11 Probably a distraction from Bluepoint closure.
Collectors edition please!
So, put the release date out with 0 fanfare, to try and divert away from the mauling they are getting on social media. Got it.
Yes! My most anticipated game just right after RE9! Hope the story is good. It's my biggest worry. I won't watch dedicated SoP since I don't want to get spoiled one of the best missions again.(Looking at you Spidey 2).
@playthedangame
I was feeling the same.
Wait a minute! Just 6 days to play Phantom Blade 0 then... It's going to be a great september.
RIP Phantom Blade 0 🥲
Good release date and gives it a ton of breathing before the nuke that is GTA VI drops.
Ohhhh hell yeah. Very, very excited about this!!!
Let’s goooooooooooo
@Jacko11 To be fair they made it clear last year they weren't showing off more until summer so a SoP trailer was never happening. That said the release date being dropped like this is to clearly distract from Bluepoint.
@Jacko11 It could be that GTA6 news is inbound imminently (trailer 3 + preorders?), Sony randomly dropped Ghost of Yotei’s release date last year shortly before GTA6 was delayed to 2026.
Well that was unexpected
Meh, will be too busy playing GTA6 around that time.. Hope it's turns out great though
@JustMyOpinion
Do you have a time machine? 'Cause GTAVI won't be out for at least two months at that time even in the best scenario.
And I'll be there day 1
Well, Sony thought long and hard about what they could do to generate likes and positive feedback following Bluepoint, didn’t they? Seems like this is a crowd control moment.
That said, Sony, I have no interest in Wolverine. Can I get Kena’s release date too? 😂
I look forward to seeing more. I don't really feel I know how the game flows. Some uninterrupted gameplay would solve that.
Thankfully, this should release before GTA 6.
@somnambulance
Kena feels like a perfect summer game.
It's likely to go head to head with Fable and the Wolverine game guaranteed to get a M rating.
Cool. But this reeks of damage control
I'm hoping there will be a decent Collector's Edition for the game, though I am not sure whether to get it by way or pre-order because I did that with Spiderman 2, only for it to be offered for half what I paid some time later. I'm definitely going to be getting the game though...
@Jacko11 It's also more of a reminder that Sony still big games coming despite all the negativity.
Considering how close this is to the last state of play where this could have been revealed, it's hard not to be cynical and wonder if Hermen pushed the panic button to try and stop the negativity.
Day after my wife's birthday I'm sure she'll be happy for me 😂
Still haven't played SM2, yet
@JustMyOpinion You do know GTA 6 is in November right?
100% down to Bluepoint heat
Clearly this is damage control to the negative press this week with Bluepoint. Trying to pivot players toward the Marathon announcements backfired and drew ire from the fanbase, so they thought a nice single player Insomniac game should sate the restless masses.
OK. Maybe I'll buy this one even before GTA VI
One of the few games I will pick up this year
Hype hype hype!!!
@UltimateOtaku91 Nobody want to release November with GTA. I wonder if any game will release during that month, its just too risky even for the biggest studios.
@Jacko11 "A distraction from Bluepoint maybe?"
Most definitely, I don't see how someone can say otherwise. Announce it on a random tuesday there's no way this was how they planned to announce the release day!
So a release date is given for a coveted single-player 1st party game and most of the comments are mourning the remake studio that hasn’t done anything in 6 years 🤣
@VelocityXCI Agreed, although one game that could go against them with ease is the new gen Pokémon game which is rumoured to be announced this Friday. Other than that, I can't see many games releasing in November.
Hmmm, time to replay X-men Origins Wolverine on PS3...
Yep, distraction from Bluepoint. What a strange way to announce the date
@ButterySmooth30FPS Strange isn't it, and that last game sold less than 2 million lifetime sales.... I remember Final Fantasy 16 getting laughed at for selling 3.5 million in one week.
Operation distraction for Bluepoint successful! Mission Complete!
On a more serious comment I am not sure I am that excited after Spiderman 2, lets see...
You all are really burnt off the Bluepoint thing, huh? Put it this way. They did remakes and you all hate remakes. So now maybe there won’t be too many remakes. Quick! Tell me what Bluepoint was working on when they closed?
Anyway. Looking forward to this one. I loved the Miles and Spider-Man games but I’m expecting more maniacal carnage from Wolverine. Bring it on!
I hope it isnt a collectathon like SM and all open world games these days.
Looks amazing i cant wait for this this is the what I bought my ps5 for sont a single player games
so still "buut why did you close a remake studio buhuu"?
Also how are Insonmiac releasing top AAA games so fast? You had Spider-Man 1 in 2018, Miles Morales in 2020, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart in 2021, Spider-Man 1 Remastered in 2022, Spider-Man 2 in 2023 and now this in 2026. Other studio's need to learn from these guys.
2 days before my kids birthday makes it easy to remember.
I'm torn between -
this is my most wanted game and I want it Day 1
and
Will it be finished on 9/15 or should I wait until Christmas for them to iron things out?
Also, will it be a linear 12 hour game? I can't pay $70 for 12 hours.
Don't think I'll be able to borrow an M rated game from the library otherwise I'd see the 12 hours as a plus.
Glad for the date though, nice to know and we can probably expect a lot more info now.
N.i.c.e. that's not that far away and close to Halloween. Wolverines will be a instant. I'm pretty sure a state of play is coming also. Word up son
A week after my birthday so come on deadbeat dad, come through with the Amazon voucher.
@UltimateOtaku91 How you ask?
Spider-Man 1 in 2018
Miles Morales in 2020
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart in 2021
Spider-Man 1 Remastered in 2022
Spider-Man 2 in 2023
This is how in 2024
They probably did it in 2025
Wolverine in 2026
😎
@UltimateOtaku91

Also how are Insonmiac releasing top AAA games so fast? Etc etc.
That’s the most truest statement I’ve heard on here.
Randomly announce its going to release in more than half a year later, geez. I hope it's an awesome game
jesus I was in the middle of playing through Infamous, you can't jumpscare me like that 😭
Definitely very happy to finally have a date for one of my most anticipated releases of the year (and a fairly predictable one at that) but man the timing of this really feels like Sony wanted a quick and easy way to get away from the Bluepoint backlash and I feel a bit soured on the announcement as a result 💔
@UltimateOtaku91
Because they are probably a well managed motived dedicated studio.
And left out of the GAAS wars.
Wolverine. Control 2. Some obscure indie called GT something or other (😃). Loads more smaller games I cannot wait for.
2026 is shaping up to be SUCH a great year for games!
@AhmadSumadi the God of War live service game that was foisted on them and then cancelled by Sony.
@Jacko11 Could be, but then again, they didn't announce Spider-Man 2s release date in a state of play, and instead showed said date at another event. Maybe a combination of both a distraction and just an announcement?
@OldGamer999 And all above 85 metacritic.
Awesome, hopefully The Blood of Dawnwalker releases mid-October and I've got the end of the year covered also with GTA VI coming late November.
It's easy when you're in a bubble like on these sites to not see the world outside of it - the majority of gamers won't even know who Bluepoint is, let alone what they released, so Sony certainly won't be bothering about 'distraction tactics' or the like.
Just to much Marvel, I am burned out as I’ve never been a big Marvel fan. Tho Wolverine is one of the cooler characters so maybe, but I won’t be their day one.
Is this Sony’s nice way to say love me again after Bluepoint closure?
Not even out yet and Wolverine was already successful in his first mission: Operation Distraction!
I am so much looking forward to this after Spider-Man 2!! I hope the gameplay has that visceral pop similar when Peter has the symbote surge
So many bootlickers out in force defending the Bluepoint closure, love to see it,
@ButterySmooth30FPS The reason they haven't made anything in 5 years is the braindead push for live service. From what was speculated, live service projects were made easiest to be greenlit so that's what the studio went with, so that would also be mismanagement from Sony. Also, how many PS studios haven't released a project in a long while? Should all of them be closed down and all of the people fired?
Look at Bluepoint's portfolio and talent prior to them being acquired by Playstation. They were porting games every 2-3 years, even shorter than that. They managed to create the Demon's Souls remake in 2 years time to coincide with the PS5 launch. Also they were put as a support studio for SSM for Ragnarok as well. Did all of them become smoothbrains after being acquired that they couldn't think up of a project?
@UltimateOtaku91 I guess sales is the only metric that should matter, not the quality of the projects or the talent behind the studios right? In that case let's all play Call of Duty and Roblox.
Good date! I dont usually buy games day 1, but for this one i’ll be there.
Also, Playstation finally has a solid roadmap, something many complained about. I think we’re finally starting to see a turnaround after their live service strategy fiasco. I hope from now on we’ll be seeing a more steady release cadence from Sony again.
@UltimateOtaku91
Good results for the studio.
I’ve always followed them with I think every R&C game over the decades.
@UltimateOtaku91
And they really can make the Pro dance.
@1970sGamer
You are correct my nephews won’t have a clue and won’t care a jot and bluepoint.
And they are typical mass market that Sony get the sales from.
@Jacko11 100% a distraction brought to us all by PR
Was this pathetic excuse of a release date trailer a way to distract us from Bluepoint closure?
We don’t forget Sony
Kept you waitin, bub
@ChikaBambus Not defending the closure at all, but challenging the “manufactured outrage” response. Facts are Bluepoint hadn’t published anything in 6 years and had zero projects in development all of 2025. More than half of the studio had already quit and they’d been winding down operations for some prior to the announced closure.
It’s just the next thing that memers and grifters have jumped on to validate themselves.
I figured they would release it before November because of GTA VI
Looks like MS are going to drop Fable on Xbox and PS5 in October along with the next COD and GTA6 might even hit November now!
Not sure when Forza 6 will come to PS5 but I'm guessing November or December.
Depends on when Gears on War drops (by August ot in 2027)
How sad, just blurting out the launch date like that, no matter the reasoning behind it. And for one of the most awaited future PS studios titles... no fanfare, no marketing, no teasing, no special SoP edition, just a mediocre X post...
After the best State of play in years, they just felt the need to mess things up, isn't it? Like an "itch" that they couldn't help but scratch.
The new/better direction they seemed to move towards, was too good to last it seems...
I'm glad they set the date, and that's this autumn, can't wait to play it.
But the way they went about announcing it is very disappointing.
And just after the stupid Bluepoint decision.... makes one wonder if there's gonna be anything left of the Sony Playstation we loved by the time the next decade starts.
Yeah this feels like a distraction from Bluepoint. Hermen the clown is a shaddy guy huh. He used other studio achievement to cover up his dirty works :/
@AhmadSumadi "They did remakes and you all hate remakes"
Bluepoint only made two remake and both was excellent + sold well. And no, not everyone hate remake. I think you mistaken people who dislike Sony decision to remake PS4 games who still looks good like Horizon Zero Dawn as if everyone hate remake.
Also. I don't get why are you defending how Hermen badly mismanaged Sony 1st party studios. Sure Bluepoint didn't release any game for 5 years after Demon's Souls remake. But at least they still released a game for PS5 and helped Santa Monica with GoW Ragnarok. Meanwhile Hermen bought Haven Studios back in 2021 and they not yet release a single game since then and they didn't get closed down. Bend Studio and Media Molecule also not yet release a new game for more than 5 years and they also didn't get closed down.
You're focusing on Bluepoint instead of Hermen crappy job and defending his decision is ignorant at best.
@OldGamer999 they were developing that multiplayer spider-man game as well
@PuppetMaster Zero Dawn badly needed the re-recorded motion capture and lip syncs, though. Characters moved like ventriloquist dummies in the original
@PuppetMaster That's what I'm saying. Sony has one of the biggest portfolios right alongside Nintendo. So many franchises left to rot and whether people like it or not, the only way for these franchises to return is through remakes/remasters which Bluepoint were masters of. About the sales, Astro Bot (which is a fantastic game) also had relatively low sales compared to other blockbuster PS games and they won GOTY last year, so what does that tell us.
@ButterySmooth30FPS I understand where you're coming from, but like I mentioned, other PS studios fell victim to Jimbo's live service push as well and still haven't released any projects. Even if it was a mistake on Bluepoint's side, does that mean that one mistake should mean all of them be shut down as well?
“Quick, they’re pissed we closed bluepoint down, what can we do?”
“Call insomniac, the wolverine release date should help cover it”.
Ahh bluepoint studios the company of remaster and remakes nothing more nothing less they became famous because of their remakes of BIG IP not developed by them demon souls sold pretty good yeah but because it was a game that was made by fromsoftware and gave birth to soul genre nobody would care if ended up doing the god of war trilogy remake ppl see Santa Monica studios they immediately buy
Lol ppl need to stop the fake ass tears
We have 2 other studios that are pretty worthless the fairgames and bend studio that developed a mid open world zombie game I prefer the term resident evil from temu
@Cherip-the-Ripper
Did not know that, glad it didn’t seem to effect them.
@LogicStrikesAgain
And we already have new Santa Monica game and Intergalactic in 2027 most probably.
Thank god for Insomniac eh Sony? 😗
@ButterySmooth30FPS And the game still looks really good and in no way needs a remake. I doubt many Horizon fans are bothered that much with lip sync when they replay Zero Dawn PS4 on their PS5.
@Yor-sama thing is dude sony need more studios not less.
Their output ps5 gen has been pathetic compared to previous gens. It’s their past release cadence most of us remember and want back. Shutting any studio isn’t going to help, especially if it’s due to Sony’s live service push and bad management as opposed to anything the studio did wrong.
@ChikaBambus Yeah there's plenty of potential for remaster / remake for old games. But Hermen decided to just squashed the best Sony 1st party studio who can do it :/
@ChikaBambus Of course not. There are behind the scenes things that we will never be privy to as consumers. I just don’t see this situation as some massive misstep given the circumstances.
Acting like this was perpetrated solely by Hermen Hulst to personally spite commenters on PushSquare is a bit ridiculous, though. Much better hills to die on than an inactive studio closing, IMO.
@GamingGod exactly. Insomniac have been by far Sonys best studio this gen. What an absolute bargain they were at 300m vs bungies billions!
@UltimateOtaku91
Why are people so upset bout this?
@datamonkey they sold 92M by now ps4 by this time had less console sells
Why keeping a studio costing money while they do nothing yes they had cancelled live service projects but even doing remakes of single player game at some point the sales will not be enough to keep them alive yes more studios but quality ones not like this
A literally remake factory nothing more and to make remakes every company can do it
@ButterySmooth30FPS You're definitely right about the Hulst part. I don't think major decisions like these are made by one person only.
Great, but releasing within the same window as Phantom Blade 0, another game with Sony marketing, seem a little bit weird.
Maybe they'll change the date.
@Grumblevolcano
One site called Loaded is apparently listing GTA6 at $120.
@Jacko11 definitely this, just hope they don’t pull the rug when it gets delayed in to the start of next year.
Sony just keeps giving us bangers. Keep it up Sony. Industry Leader showing them boys how a gaming company makes games. Keep it up Sony
@ChikaBambus no one cares about Bluepoint being shut down. All we care about is playing games, good games at that. Sony can shutdown any and every studio they want when they want. If you truly care hire everyone that was fired and have them make a game. Your whining about a corporation and what they can do internally, at their own company, is unnecessary and its a moot point, no one cares and if they do, they are pretending becasue anyone who really cares about these people that got laid off would give them a job. Either open a studio and hire them all or get over it.
Typical, divert from other decisions, weak announcement I mean it's a particular time and from other dates that matter to me in the year. But like I care.
I so care we have 4 US studios making the big singleplayer tv/movie style slop games and the rest do multiplayer. I so care about that. The 4 big brand name IPs. Then otherwise whatever Guerilla does for Horizon 3.
I already don't care about this game, so like a release date will change anything from other business related news Insomniac/Sony XD What do they think were stupid. I haven't been impressed with an Insomniac game since Sunset Overdrive/Song of the Deep, maybe even Ratchet Nexus in 2013. Maybe even Crack in Time in 2009, Fuse/All For One were hmm, QForce/Full Frontal Assault were hmm.
Some of us already gave up on P,layStation and just pay attention to the news of all 3 platforms. XD
No one cares bluepoint got shutdown, if you did care, you would give them a job. You would open a studio and gamble on them the way Sony didn't. Who is going to do that?
@OldGamer999 Insomniac has always been a studio that can juggle multiple projects. I think they have 2 teams working at all times (don't quote me on that).
Back in the PS3 days they managed to crank out the Resistance trilogy, Fuse, and a bunch of Ratchet & Clank games of various sizes in between. So I'm not surprised they're able to release games faster than other Sony studios today.
Also, don't all the Spider-Man games take place in New York? It's not like they're starting from scratch every time they make one of those. Plus, with Ratchet, Resistance and Spider-Man, those games don't drastically change gameplay from one game to the next so it's probably easier to make sequels
I am thrilled that Wolverine is hitting this year. September isn’t a surprise given GTA6’s release date. Day 1 for me.
@PuppetMaster I am sure I am in the minority on this but for my money Sony being less enthusiastic than its competitors about milking IPs (though it does its share of milking) is a strength, not a weakness. Chaining developers to a franchise forever once they strike gold is the safest bet but giving those who want to the opportunity to continue to explore other ideas can pay off quite well (Insomniac and Naughty Dog tend to move onto new franchises every several years and thus far those leaps have been successful).
Of course failure is a risk with such a strategy. I personally played Media Molecule’s Dreams as much as I played the first two LBPs but Dreams was a commercial failure (though the servers are still up and the admittedly small community is active). Shrugs But sticking to a framchise until people become sick of it is a risk too.
The Bluepoint layoffs are stupid not because they were great at remasters but because they were a talented team which Sony should have worked something out with. They clearly wanted to branch out and one stumble shouldn’t have doomed the studio.
https://www.ign.com/articles/sony-acquires-bluepoint-next-game-playstation-exclusive
"Our team is a very highly experienced team, the average experience among most people is about 15 years, and all of them come from original development. It's not like we're a bunch of developers that got trained up on making remasters and remakes. We have that original game development mindset in our hearts, and that's what we're now ready, finally ready with the support of Sony to push forward and show what we can do, and show what PlayStation can do," he said.
@Jacko11 I was thinking the same thing it's probably a distraction from the Bluepoint closing
this is only to distract from the closure of zipper interactive.
@JoeNobody Don't understand your comment. We can all form opinions on things we don't have influence over. As you can see a lot of people cared that the studio got shut down. Despite them being a team of 70 people and not crafting an original title, they excelled at remastering and remaking good games in a short of amount of time. I care because I'd rather have remakes any day of the week over the live service garbage that is coming from a couple of studios.
@UltimateOtaku91
Why are people getting so upset about this?
And, more likely, it's ready to release in September.
@Carnage "They clearly wanted to branch out and one stumble shouldn’t have doomed the studio"
And Hermen should just allow Bluepoint to work on their own IP but also keep them doing what they do best with remaster / remake. From these remaster / remake, Bluepoint could get more money to fund their own title. It's quite similar with Naughty Dog. They're doing Uncharted & TloU remaster despite they're not yet release a brand new game for PS5.
But Hermen didn't used that type of option for Bluepoint. He just killed them for whatever reason and then yapping about how talented the studio is. His bad management are destroying Sony 1st party studios.
So many comments about this being a distraction from Bluepoint. It most definitely is not. Sony are not torpedoing their marketing plan for one of their blockbuster titles, that will bring in multiple hundreds of millions to appease a tiny vocal fraction of their fanbase. Completely absurd to even suggest it.
@UltimateOtaku91 How they release it so fast? Seriously? Reusing same formula every single time, they also seem to reuse models and gameplay mechanics. Even controls are same every time.
It’s no surprise.
@Carnage Wait. Did you just say Sony is not milking their IPs like competition?
Did you see their first party exclusives list from PS5? They are all damn sequels. Every single one.
@Leinad7 So like Mario, Pokémon, Zelda, Animal Crossing etc
@UltimateOtaku91 not really rushing in my opinion. It's one week later than spidey 1 but one month earlier than spidey 2.
@Leinad7 dude a nintendo fan talking about reused assets when Mario Tennis Fever just came out is laughable. Go back to Nintendo Life lol. Nintendo hasn't had a successful new IP since Splatoon
Xbox is dead hahahaha 😆 😂 🤣 🙃 😅 Sony is the Goat, this will be a banger. Not sure about Game of the Year, this year will be tough year alot of good games are coming out. Hopefully we get GTA VI but I will belive that when I see it. GTA VI will be Sonys victory also as that will be where most people play, just like Call of Duty.
@PuppetMaster As a small, traditionally one project studio I’m not sure Bluepoint could have developed a new game and remade an old one at the same time.
I agree dissolving Bluepoint was a mistake though as I’ve said elsewhere I’m less shocked and offended by Sony’s multiplayer push than most seem to be. MS was in the middle of a massive acquisition spree and had a history of making their games exclusive (though Minecraft was a notable exception) and Sony has historically sought to counterpunch its opponents (remember the wave of butt bouncers released by Sony in the PS1 and PS2 era?).
this is just a placeholder 😂
@Leinad7 Did you miss the opening line of my post when I stated Sony did its share of framchise milking but was less enthusiastic about it than its competitors?
Sony allows studios to walk away from even successful franchises and try other things, which sometimes works out and sometimes doesn’t. Returnal is a current gen example of an original game that worked out commercially.
